A Scenic Voyage through the Cataracts Your cultural adventure begins with a pickup from your Aswan hotel or cruise. We head to the riverbank to board a private motorboat. The journey to the village is a highlight in itself; you’ll navigate through the granite boulders of the First Cataract, passing the lush botanical gardens and the historic Old Cataract Hotel. The Magic of Gharb Soheil As the boat docks at Soheil Island, you’ll be greeted by the sight of the village perched on the desert hillside. We’ll walk through the narrow, sandy alleys of Gharb Soheil, where the walls are decorated with geometric patterns and scenes of Nile life. Your guide will explain the unique architecture of the Nubian vaulted roofs, designed to keep homes cool under the desert sun.

Life Inside a Nubian Home The most authentic part of the tour is our visit to a local family home. Here, you’ll step into a wide-open courtyard—often shared with a pet crocodile, a traditional symbol of protection in Nubian culture. You’ll be invited to sit on hand-woven mats to enjoy "Karkade" (hibiscus tea) or traditional coffee with ginger. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn about the Nubian language, their distinct wedding customs, and their deep connection to the Nile.

The Village Souk & Return Before heading back, we’ll take a stroll through the local market. Unlike the busy bazaars of the city, this market is laid-back and focused on local crafts. You can find high-quality hibiscus, henna, and unique jewelry. We then board our boat for a relaxing return journey to Aswan, arriving just as the late afternoon light turns the river to gold.
